How does teaching work, step by step?

Your child picks a skill, teaches it with prepared choices, watches the companion try, and fixes what went wrong.

Every skill is taught the same way. The details change from skill to skill. Each lesson has ten short parts.

Each lavender piece is one skill. Tap Teach to start it. A piece with a lock says Peek.

The steps

  1. Pick a skill. In the Workshop, your child taps a puzzle piece. The companion says what it wants to learn.
  2. Ask. Your child picks a prepared question and taps Send.
  3. Notice. The companion answers, and the answer may be wrong or half right. Your child spots what went wrong.
  4. Teach a rule. Your child picks the rule that fixes it. The companion learns it.
  5. Try again. On a new example, the companion uses the rule. Your child checks the difference.
  6. Save. The last screen has a Save button. Your child earns coins and a puzzle piece.
Your child taps a prepared choice and presses Send. There is nothing to type.

Along the way

Your child always taps prepared choices. Every question has a Need help? button. A wrong pick gets a kind "try again." See What if my child picks a wrong answer?

Teaching uses a little battery on each Send. See What uses the battery.
