What your companion knows

A companion's page shows what your child taught it, what it is still getting the hang of, and what is ready to learn.

  1. The three groups
  2. What it does not mean
  3. The same idea in the learning report

On the Companion tab there is a section called "What (name) knows." For example, "What Pip knows." It sorts skills into three groups.

The three groups

  • Things you taught (name). Skills your child has shown. Each one has a piece and a line like "Pip can find what went wrong."
  • Getting the hang of it. Skills your child started, or finished but has not shown yet. The page says things like "Pip is learning this" and "Practice makes Pip even stronger." A button says Keep going.
  • Ready to learn. A few suggestions of what to teach next. It never lists everything at once.

What it does not mean

It is not a grade. There are no scores, no numbers and no words like "failed" or "behind." A skill in "Getting the hang of it" is simply a skill that has had less practice.

The same idea in the learning report

The grown-up learning report has a matching section, also called "What (name) knows." It sorts skills into "Showed it," "Getting the hang of it" and "Not started." It is based on practice with prepared choices. See How to read the learning report.
