Why are the sentences in the lessons so short?

Children's text in Dilly keeps each sentence to 12 words or fewer, with one idea at a time, so it is easy to read at a glance.

  3. What about older children?

A child should never meet a wall of text. So Dilly keeps its lessons short and plain.

The rules

  • A sentence has 12 words or fewer.
  • Each card has one idea.
  • A longer idea is split into several short cards. Your child taps Keep going to see the next.
  • Words are everyday words. No jargon.
  • A key line is bold, so the point is clear at a glance.

What does not change

Short does not mean wrong. If a sentence cannot be shortened without changing a fact, it is split in two. A fact is never changed to make a sentence shorter.

What about older children?

The same short style is used for every grade. It makes the screens easy to read for a younger reader, and quick for an older one. See What if the lessons feel too easy or too hard?
